The much anticipated College of Pharmacy addition, Pharmacy South, was completed in September 2009. The $44 million building is located on the south side of the Robert C. Wilson Pharmacy Building, and was constructed on top of a previously existing parking lot. The Pharmacy South addition was the University of Georgia’s first LEED Certified laboratory building.
Sustainable Design Features:
New building and green space created through redevelopment of existing asphalt parking area
The building is adjacent to bus stops and integrated into UGA’s alternative transportation network
Bicycle racks and showers are provided for students, faculty, and staff to encourage cycling
Abundance of natural daylight decreases the need for artificial lighting inside
Occupancy sensors are on the lights in all the offices
Building grounds use reflective materials to reduce heat island effect
A 15,000 gallon cistern captures rainwater and condensation for use in the landscape irrigation system
Numerous recycling receptacles are placed throughout the building
20% of building materials were created from recycled content
50% of the wood based building materials came from Forest Stewardship Council certified sources
All adhesives, sealants, paints, carpet and wood fiber products are low emitting VOCs
A healthy interior environment is ensured through participation in UGA’s Green Cleaning program
Newly created landscape prioritizes native and drought tolerant plants
