Rutherford Hall – UGA 1215 (2014, Category 5). Rutherford Hall was originally constructed in 1939 as a women’s dormitory. It was named in honor of Mildred Lewis Rutherford, a noted author and educator. Located opposite Mary Lyndon Hall on the north side of the open quadrangle, Rutherford Hall was part of the New Deal expansion of the University managed by Richard Driftmier and Roy Hitchcock.
In 2012, the original building was demolished and a new, larger dormitory was constructed, opening in fall 2013. The new building is designed in a similar yet more sophisticated Colonial Revival style than its 1930s predecessor.
